volume of agricultural labour

Definition

A statistical concept adopted by Eurostat to define agricultural labour, measured in Annual Work Units (AWUs). A distinction is drawn between non-salaried and salaried AWUs, which together make up total AWUs. The total number of hours worked in agriculture represents the aggregate number of hours actually worked as an employee or a self-employed person during the calendar year, when the output of this work is included in the output of the agricultural industry.
