Abstract
The aim of this pilot-study was to assess differences in egg-laying activity of queens during the presumed transition of colonies to the winter brood pause and to determine whether there are location-related differences or differences with regard to the origin of the queens. For this purpose, the amount of brood was determined in 21 bee colonies with 21 queens obtained from 8 different breeders working in 2 different Carnica breeding programs at four different apiaries from 23 August 2013 to 25 October 2013 at intervals of approximately 21 days (depending on the weather conditions).
