A data provider is a person or legal entity (company, university, government, non-governmental organisation, non-profit organisation) that transfers data and metadata assets (e.g. datasets) created by a physical person or machine or a group of physical persons or machines to another person or legal entity (data processor, data repository) for the purpose of processing or archiving the data.
